As you know I LOVE Greek Food. So when Torrye suggested we go to Mykonos Grill, which I had driven past at least a hundred times, of course I said yes.
The first time we went we started with the Appetizer Trio, consisting of Tzatziki, Tirokafteri (spicy feta spread), and hummus served with pita. They have THE BEST tzatziki I have ever had. It had a thicker consistency than most other restaurants, but it made it much better. I've only had tirokafteri at one other restaurant and Myknonos makes theirs a little bit thinner and it wasn't my favorite. The hummus had a consistency that was closer to the kind I've had in the Mediterranean and I appreciated that. The pita was great and served warm.
For my main I had the Authentic Gyro with double Greek salad (opposed to fries and salad, or over rice for a small charge). Torrye had the Cheeseburger on Pita. The meat was cooked perfect. I've never had gyro meat in such a thick cut and I LOVED IT. They serve the salad with Greek dressing, but I like using tzatziki on my salad. There were only two olives in the salad, and you have to pay extra for more olives. Torrye LOVED her burger.
The second time we went I ordered Saganaki (they only serve it after 4pm). I had never heard of it before and there was no description of it in the menu. I've never been so happy I asked a question in my life. Saganaki is an appetizer of fried cheese (usually feta). They lit it on fire and brought it out, however it wasn't one of those really awesome big fires you see on TV. It was still cool though. Plus it was AUH-MAZING! Much better than regular old mozzarella sticks (which they serve too). I had the combination platter, which had Chicken Souvlaki, Gyro, and Spanokopita, with a double salad again. The chicken was seasoned to PERFECTION! It even left some deliciousness on the pita that it was laying on. The spanokopita was GREAT, some people cook it to hard or the spinach is slimy. Not the case here, it might be THE BEST I've ever had. Torrye had the Philly Cheese Stake, and is still talking about how good it was 3 days later. I had Baklava for dessert, it had too much honey on it for me, but it was good other than that.
I will be going back, they have EXCELLENT food and service. They don't serve ginger ale, but one of the waiters was able to "make" some by mixing other sodas.
Mykonos Grill is a small North Carolina based chain with 3 locations, you can can check out their website and Facebook.
Until your next bite!
